Brandi Chastain has been one of the women's national team's most accomplished defenders since 1996, but created the defining moment in women's soccer by scoring a goal. Her medal-clinching penalty kick against China in 1999 Women's World Cup final, and joyously uninhibited jersey-waving celebration, brought her team and her sport into the international spotlight.
With the rest of her World Cup teammates, she was instrumental in forming the Women's United Soccer Association, and led the San Jose CyberRays to the inaugural WUSA Founder's Cup championship in 2001. With the Women's National Team, she has played in three Olympics and three Women's World Cups.
SOCCER DRILL
Line up 5 or more cones or something else that won't move on grass in a row. They should be several footsteps apart. Grab a soccer ball and kick the ball around the cones. Don't have a ball? You can still work on your footwork by running around the cones. This will keep you light on your feet.

BRANDI ANSWERS YOUR QUESTIONS
Q. When did you first get into soccer?
A. I was 6 years old when I joined a recreational league team.
Q. I have a three year old who shows promise for soccer, or at least he runs around and is quite fast and sturdy for his age. We've bought him a toy and he looks like a grown adult kicking a soccer ball. I'd just like to ask if it's too early to enroll him into a soccer program?
A. Three is fine. Any age is okay if the focus is to have fun.
Q. I have a very picky eater. How do I get her to eat vegetables when she shakes her head at the very sight of it?
A. I show my kids how much I love to eat them and let them try different veggies over time.

“Coaches can give you information, they can give you guidelines, and they can put you in a position. But the only person who can truly make you better is you.”
"When you find something you love and have passion for its easy to be dedicated. This simple rule applies to everything in life on and off the field. It all starts from finding that fun, that thrill, that excitement."
